The new tyre regulations will come into force in Italy from 15 April 2025. From this date, it will be compulsory to change from winter to summer tyres if the winter tyres do not correspond to the speed index on the registration certificate.
Anyone driving with winter tyres in the summer will pay high fines. These range between 422 and 1682 euros. In serious cases, there is even the threat of having your car registration revoked. Worn out summer tyres can also be expensive. The fine is between 87 and 344 euros. In the event of an accident with worn out tyres, the insurance company may not pay out.
There is a transitional period until 15 May. During this period, police officers will point out offences. After that, the high penalties will apply.
Details of the new tyre rules for Italy can be found on the ÖAMTC website.
